Career narrative

A career in elite

performance medicine

After qualifying as a doctor and completing his training in emergency medicine, Dr Botchey moved into Sport and Exercise Medicine, with a particular focus on elite and professional sport.

He has worked across some of the highest levels of sport, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, Brentford FC, England Football, the NFL London Games, Premiership Rugby and UK Sport.

His work in elite sport has centred on musculoskeletal injury assessment, return-to-play decision-making, performance medicine and the management of complex injuries where the key question is often not simply how to treat the problem, but how to restore an athlete safely and efficiently to the highest level of performance.

In 2023, he founded The Sports Biologics Clinic™, bringing the standards, precision and multidisciplinary approach of elite sport into a specialist clinical setting.

The clinic is designed both for professional and elite athletes, and for active individuals who want access to the same level of assessment, decision-making and treatment normally associated with high-performance sport. Its focus includes advanced musculoskeletal diagnostics, image-guided procedures, precision orthobiologics, regenerative medicine, joint preservation and structured return-to-performance planning.

The aim is to provide a genuinely elite-sport standard of care: establishing the diagnosis accurately, understanding the demands of the individual, selecting the right intervention at the right time, and building a clear pathway back to sport, training and performance.
